Washing and Caring for Cloth Diapers

Before First Use

**This is important so don’t skip!** Wash diaper(s) in hot water with detergent and tumble dry, repeating this process 5-6 times before the first use. This is essential because they will continue to gain absorbency with each wash.

Washing Cloth Diapers

  • Remove as much solid matter as possible. (We like using a diaper sprayer to spray directly into the toilet)
  • Place soiled diaper in a dry diaper pail. Soaking is not necessary.
  • Wash every 2 days on warm with detergent.
  • Tumble dry low.
  • Do NOT use bleach, enzyme cleaners, or fabric softeners.

Materials

The new GroVia line of AIOs are … well… like buttah! Shimmery, pillowy, and quite possibly the softest thing you’ve ever touched.

  • Inner Body: 4 layers of 100% Organic Cotton on both sewn-in insert and snap-in booster.

  • Diaper Outer: 100% water-resistant Polyester TPU, lined with 2 layers of Organic Cotton.

Why Choose Cloth Diapers?

Environmental reasons to choose cloth diapers

20,000,000,000 diapers end up in landfills each year. Each takes at least 500 years to decompose.

The average child will use around 7000 disposable diapers before potty training, and each diaper will take around 500 years to decompose. That means that “disposable” diapers will still be around during your baby’s great, great grandchild’s lifetime. OR you can use 24-40 cloth diapers, which can each be used hundreds of times and with multiple children.

Cost! Cloth diapers are typically much less expensive than disposables

You’ll spend anywhere from $1400-$2200 for disposable diapers for one child, while only around $400-$600 on an entire cloth diapering system, which can be used for multiple children and resold when you’re done with them. You will see savings, even after factoring in costs for extra detergent, water, and energy.

Chemical Concerns

Diaper rashes, sensitivities, and other health concerns often lead parents to choose cloth diapers. Some of the ingredients disposable diaper companies use that parents may not approve of include: fragrances, chlorine, phthalates, absorbent polymers, sodium polyacrylate, and dioxins. You can feel good knowing that these reusable cloth diapers are lined with certified 100% organic cotton.
